Care Guide : How To Wash Cashmere
Cashmere doesn't need to be washed after every wear, as it’s naturally odor-resistant and breathable. Ideally, wash your cashmere sweater every 5–10 wears, depending on how much you sweat or if it’s visibly soiled. To extend the time between washes, wear a cotton tee under your sweater. Between washes, you can freshen it up by gently steaming or airing it out.
What you'll need:
- A sink or basin
- Lukewarm water
- Mild detergent (specifically for wool or cashmere)
- A clean towel
- Drying rack or flat surface
Instructions:
1. Fill the Sink/Basin:
- Fill the sink or basin with lukewarm water (not hot, as that could shrink the fabric).
2. Add Detergent:
- Pour a small amount of mild detergent for wool/cashmere into the water. Swirl the water to mix it in.
3. Submerge the Sweater:
- Gently place your cashmere sweater into the water. Avoid scrubbing or wringing—just let it soak for about 5 minutes.
4. Gently Clean:
- If there are any spots, lightly rub them with your fingers or a soft cloth. Don’t twist or rub harshly—this can cause the fibers to stretch or break.
5. Rinse:
- Drain the soapy water, and refill the basin with fresh lukewarm water to rinse. Gently agitate the sweater in the water to remove any detergent. Repeat until the water runs clear.
6. Remove Excess Water:
- Press the sweater gently against the side of the sink to remove excess water. Do not wring it out.
7. Dry:
- Lay a clean, dry towel flat on a surface. Place the sweater on top, then roll it up in the towel to absorb the remaining moisture. Avoid wringing or twisting.
8. Shape and Dry:
- Lay the sweater flat on a drying rack or another flat surface to air dry. Gently reshape it to its original size, but don’t stretch it out. Let it dry away from direct heat or sunlight.
