Expressive Repair Sewing and Darning Class
Darning class - 3 hours $65
A workshop for learning the Darning Stitch on a mini loom(speed weave).
Darning stitch - a classic woven patch for fixing holes or edges of the garments. The goal for this workshop, to show basic techniques of setting up on the fabric or garment, starting the woven patch, and finishing it. I want to urge people to repair their loved garments, and to prolong the life of the garment for the sake of a more sustainable approach to fashion. Even if participant don’t have a garment to repair, they will leave with the tool and a darned patch that can be attached to any garment, as well as basic knowledge on how to make a darning stitch. My hope is that participants will get back to darning after the class, and continue the exploration of possibilities with colors and patterns for the patches.
What to bring:
- A garment you’d like to repair or transform(recommended but not required)
All sewing tools, threads, and a selection of textile materials will be provided. Materials will also be available for those who prefer to practice on sample fabric.
Open to all levels, no prior experience required.
Maximum class size 15 persons.
