Our Ren Kimono is inspired by the antique Japanese Sakiori pieces in our archive. We tried to capture the look of the mixed strips of reclaimed fabrics in these pieces by dyeing yarns to multiple levels of indigo and twisting them together, grounding them with a natural yarn. We also mixed stitches to capture the look of our boro textiles. All of our yarns are dyed with plant based indigo by artisans who work purely with natural dyes. The sweaters are then all hand-knit and the panels and pockets are hand linked with a beautiful embroidery stitch by artisans outside Lima, Peru in a process that takes 3 months.
About Indi Kids:
indi is designed to honor artisans and invest in the empowerment and education of kids in our communities. We started indi as a way to offer beautiful clothes for our little ones that represent the values we stand for—and the world we want them to grow up in.
