It is our great honor and extreme pleasure to announce that M.PATMOS is the 2015 winner of the illustrious International Woolmark Prize for womenswear!
In July 2014, we received the US regional prize for womenswear in our hometown of New York City. The Woolmark Company held the international finals in Beijing, with a panel of twelve judges including Victoria Beckham, Angelica Chung and Franca Sozzani. Designers from five world regions (Asia, Australia, Europe, India & Middle East and USA) designed six-outfit capsule collections featuring merino wool. The award was based on a variety of criteria from inspiration, illustration and innovation to the fabrics and yarns themselves, as well as a question and answer session with the twelve-judge panel showing the full collection produced and presented on models.
Franco Sozzani described the collection by saying, “Marcia did quite an easy concept: It was the woman of today, very cool and simple, but very well-made … It’s perfect for daily wear.” The M.PATMOS for Woolmark collection was designed around the story of an architect, about to embark on a journey through several cities in several countries for several weeks. Her itinerary includes Reykjavik, Tangier, Beijing, and Detroit conducting site visits and client meetings for various projects she is working on and hopefully getting a little time to explore. The fully merchandised outfits were made to help her transition between the different climates and events effortlessly.
Highlights include a Sleeper Hat (fold down the brim and you have a built in sleep mask for long plane rides), the Travel Dress (which can be separated into a shirt and skirt and has a belt that doubles as a money and document purse for your travel accessories) and the Reversible Travel Coat (with passport pockets and engineered comfort panel at back to be non-constricting either in a seat or when dealing with an overhead compartment).
In researching the collection, we found new discoveries in merino including merino elastic, tulle, and batting. We also created custom fabrics by handspinning yarn from upcycled fabric left over from production. Material and technique choices for this capsule range from handmade to high-tech – echoing the world we live in.
In August 2015 the collection will be available in Harvey Nichols, 10 Corso Como, Saks Fifth Avenue, Joyce, David Jones and Mytheresa.com
